The NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme is delighted to celebrate the launch of the new Prof & Doc Watercress Active skincare range, an innovation led by Cohort 1 NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Dr Kyle Stewart and the team at Watercress Research Ltd.
This milestone follows more than a decade of scientific investigation into the clinically useful chemistry of watercress. Supported by over £2 million in raised funding, the team designed, built and commissioned a bespoke biorefinery to produce their international patent-pending Watercress Active extract. This powerful ingredient forms the backbone of the Prof & Doc range and is backed by robust clinical evidence demonstrating a wide range of skin-health benefits.

With ambitions to bring the range to high-street retailers later this year, the innovation extends far beyond skincare. Watercress Active is now being incorporated into wet wipes, with further plans to develop a new generation of continence care products. These products harness watercress’ natural bacterial urease inhibitors and ammonia-scavenging activity, targeting the underlying drivers of incontinence-associated dermatitis, nappy rash and sweat rash.
Longer term, parent company Watercress Research Ltd plans to translate this breakthrough science into new medicines targeting the urease enzyme, with potential implications for urinary tract infections, struvite kidney stones, hepatic encephalopathy and other conditions.
