International Women’s Day is a global celebration of the achievements of women and a call to action for gender equality. This year, we shine a spotlight on the incredible women within the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme who are driving innovation and improving healthcare for patients.
The NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme is known for its supportive and inclusive environment, fostering innovation among NHS staff. This programme provides a platform for both clinical and non-clinical professionals to develop and scale their innovative ideas, ultimately enhancing patient care and the healthcare system
Inspirational Leadership
At the heart of this programme is the inspirational Dr. Tamsin Holland Brown, a paediatrician and award-winning health entrepreneur. Dr. Holland Brown’s journey is a testament to perseverance and innovation. Despite various challenges, she has made significant strides in paediatric healthcare, particularly with her work on hearing loss in children. As a co-clinical lead of the programme, Tamsin continues to inspire and mentor the next generation of healthcare innovators.
” Historically, women’s health issues have been under-researched and underfunded, leading to disparities in care and outcomes. By empowering women to lead and innovate in healthcare, we can address these gaps, ensure more comprehensive and inclusive solutions, and ultimately improve health outcomes for everyone. It’s essential that we support and amplify the voices of women in this field to create a more equitable and effective healthcare system.”

Pushing Boundaries: Our entrepreneurs
The programme boasts a diverse group of entrepreneurs who are pushing the boundaries of healthcare innovation. This week we shine a spotlight on three such innovators:
- Giovannie Jean Louis: Dr Jean-Louis, a distinguished neuro-disability physiotherapist, founded PROBr to address the challenges of recruiting research participants, particularly from underrepresented groups. Her innovation aims to improve access to research studies, ensuring that diverse populations are included in medical research.
- Louise Thompson: Louise is the founder of Myfolks, a digital platform that combats social isolation among the elderly by connecting them with companions for regular visits. Her innovative approach is helping to prevent diseases linked to loneliness, such as dementia and heart disease.
- Dina Paoloni: Dina, a clinical trial nurse with extensive experience, recognised the unique challenges faced by international nurses. Her innovation, Nurses Move, is designed to provide comprehensive support, helping these nurses navigate their careers and thrive in new environments. By offering resources and guidance, Dina’s work ensures that international nurses can integrate smoothly into the NHS, enhancing their professional development and well-being.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we honour the remarkable women of the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme, from entrepreneurs to our amazing network of mentors, industry experts and partners. Their dedication, innovation, and leadership are not only transforming healthcare but also inspiring future generations to continue pushing the boundaries of what is possible. Together, we can forge a more inclusive and equitable world, one innovation at a time.
Happy International Women’s Day! 💜
